The recently inaugurated DUKES Dubai, a five-star hotel and residences on Palm Jumeirah announced an exclusive area dedicated to women travellers – the Duchess Floor.

The floor located on the third floor of the hotel features 20 rooms with private lift access, women’s only public spaces, as well as private access to rooms. The interiors of the floor has been designed using Liberty Fabrics. Female guests can also enjoy the Duchess breakfast at the Champagne and Tea lounge.

The concept was borne out of DUKES Collection managing director Debrah Dhugga’s own business travel experience. She is of the opinion that five-star hotels need to create a tailored experience specifically for women travelling alone.

In addition to Liberty Fabrics, the hotel also showcases brands such as independent family perfumer Floris, Paxton & Whitfield cheese, Toni & Guy, William Edwards china and Andrew Martin interiors. A special highlight is the classic British taxi – the Hackney Carriage – outside the hotel for guests.

The new property owned and operated by Seven Tides, features a 279-room hotel including 64 suites as well as 227 fully furnished hotel apartments and six dining experiences.

The hotel’s signature outlet Great British Restaurant (GBR) will operate under executive chef Martin Cahill. The planned menu includes cod and chips, Lancashire hot pot, Colchester Oysters and Dover sole, with calorific sweets. DUKES Bar offers light bites and drinks and is famed for its signature selection of martinis. The Manhattan style grill and bar, West 14th is managed by executive chef, Clive Pereira. The remainder of the food and beverage outlets will come online within the next six to eight weeks. This will include Northern Indian restaurant Khyber, marking the first international outpost, the Tea Lounge for afternoon tea and the Cigar Lounge, offering a selection of fine cigars and malts.
