Cleartrip enables Apple Pay

As part of its efforts to make travel simple, Cleartrip announced the integration of Apple Pay on its mobile application.

With the launch of Apple’s digital wallet in the UAE, Cleartrip customers can now have a quicker and safer way to check out on the mobile app. Apple Pay supports all devices running iOS 11 and works with iPhone SE, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and later, and Apple Watch.

“Understanding and addressing our customers’ needs, like easy payment options, is at the heart of why we launched Apple Pay on the Cleartrip app,” said Stuart Crighton, Founder and CEO of Cleartrip.

To support the launch, customers using Apple Pay to purchase on the Cleartrip iOS app will benefit from an instant discount of AED 100 on flights.

Apple rolled out Apple Pay in the UAE in a move that is expected to revolutionize the country’s digital economy. The service is already available in a number of countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, China, Russia, France, Japan and Hong Kong. Cashless payments have been rapidly gaining momentum in the country, with the government identifying them as a top priority in the UAE’s Vision 2021.

Clearrtrip’s MENA Insights

Cleartrip released its MENA Insights Report for the first six months of 2017. The report covers facts and figures related to the MENA region covering facts such as percentages of mobile application transactions vs mobile application traffic. The report also covers the average percentage of trips of individuals by country, the percentage of last minute bookings and preferred payment methods.



Cleartrip goes local

In a bid to get more local, Cleartrip has officially launched an Arabic-language website to support its GCC market expansion efforts. The portal will provide its users in the region localized browsing and booking capability.

The new website includes content and promotions relevant for Arabic-speaking audiences, and also has a host of useful features, tools and functionality designed to allow travellers to easily make and manage reservations. There will also be offers and benefits when booking on the Cleartrip website or its mobile application.

Cleartrip is experiencing increased traffic on its website from mobile devices, with traffic driven by smartphones and tablets growing 30% during the first week of Ramadan, and the launch of a dedicated website in Arabic language is expected to further accelerate bookings. Currently, 86% of Cleartrip bookings in the UAE are by credit card and 14% are by debit card.

The Middle East’s online travel market is forecast to almost double in value in the two-year period between 2016 and 2018, rising from US$18 billion to US$35 billion by 2018. According to a joint study conducted by Travelport and Phocuswright, online travel bookings, which accounted for 25% of all bookings in the Middle East in 2016, will rise to 36% by end of 2017.
